If you have not received our messages please read the information below explaining the recent changes. We would also ask that you check we have your current contact details in your site's account area to ensure you don't miss future messages.
Recipero (previously ik Software) launched the schools website service in 2000. Since 2001 BT has been kindly working with us to help support the Schools website service and in that time together we have helped many thousands of schools create and maintain their internet presence. Unfortunately as of April 2010, BT's sponsorship of the service has now sadly expired. We would however like to take this opportunity to thank them on behalf of all the schools that they have helped over the years.
The service will continue though...
We are pleased to confirm that Recipero plans to continue with the provision of the schools service. However to maintain the viability of the service it is necessary to move to a partially subsidised service.
What this means is that Recipero will for its part continue to help fund the provision and support of the service, but that we must now ask site owners that choose to remain with the service to make a contribution by way of a small annual fee.
When will the changes happen?
We appreciate that for most of our users both time and financial resources are always scarce, so we have tried to give a much notice as possible. The key date to note is September 30th 2010, by that date users that wish to continue using the schools.ik.org service will need to have upgraded to the new site level.
Unfortunately schools that do not wish to remain with the service will need to find an alternative solution.
What will the annual fee be?
The annual cost for sites that remain on the schools service will be just £75+vat. Sites that are already at the existing premium level will not be asked to pay this revised price until their next renewal.
SPECIAL OFFER (Updated 14/06/2010):
However any school that orders an upgrade / or renewal of their site before June 12th 2010 July 31st 2010 will pay only £50+VAT (reverting to £75+VAT the following year).
To make the transition as easy as possible we have also made sure the deadline is the the end of September avoiding any issue with making payments during the summer holidays.
Is the new site level any different?
Yes. It is still the same easy to use tool you are used to, but for users of the previous free service the new site level comes with several extra features and massively increased capacities. For current premium site owners the new site offer almost double the capacity, which equates to roughly 400% more when compared to the original free service.

What do I need to do?
To remain on the service you will need to upgrade your site to the new level before September 30th 2010. Information about how to do this is detailed below and will also be emailed to site managers in the coming weeks. Essentially though you will need to contact our support team who will perform the upgrade for you.
If you decide to use an alternative solution no action is necessary as your site will automatically be taken offline at the end of September. If you wish your site to be removed sooner please contact our support team.
We have no doubt that many of you will be disappointed to hear of these changes. We have considered other options such as seeking an alternative sponsor or closing the service completely, but in the current economic climate the best and only option open to us is the partially subsidised solution detailed above.
